eMonocot Scratchpad(s)

This page is a placeholder for the Product Description for the eMonocot Scratchpads component

Scratchpads can import taxonomy terms via a
web service as provided by the lifedesk project, and Scratchpads conforming to
the eMonocot profile will use an identical web service providing access to the
World Checklist that will be implemented by the eMonocot developers.

Currently, Scratchpads implement a simple web service which
provides content according to the EoL Transfer Schema for textual content held
in a Taxon Description content type, Images, and References that have been
tagged with the appropriate taxonomy term.

It is expected that by 1st January 2012 the
Scratchpad project will implement publishing taxonomic and descriptive
information using the Darwin Core Archive standard.

  • That identifiers provided by the checklist webservice wrapper (on taxon concepts) will be preserved within the scratchpad database and provided as the identifier of objects exposed by webservices publishing taxon concepts (e.g. EoL Transfer Schema, Darwin Core Archive)
  • That the scratchpads will be extended to expose character-state / quantitative date ("Character Projects") data as a web service (either a distinct web service, or as part of an existing web service).
  • That scratchpads will be extended to expose taxonomic keys as a web service in the same way.
  • That we will be able to work out a way of passing messages (annotations / comments) from the Portal to a Scratchpad in the medium term.
